Where Are We?
Nag Shampa, meaning “Incense of Love” is located in the peaceful village of Taro, where the ancient rhythm of life, prayer and ceremony, established over centuries ago, still exists today. Approximately 30 minutes drive north of the mountain town Ubud, Nag Shampa Estate is cradled in a landscape of orchards, gardens and mist laden ranges.
Nag Shampa Estate, is composed of 8 oversized bedrooms, ranging from expansive Joglo style, to private pool cottages named Kubu’s. The Istana Suite occupies an entire Joglo to itself and comprises lounge areas, writing and relaxation spaces and a huge Master bathroom. All connected by raised timber walkways, dwellings are filled with eclectic and meaningful treasures and are infused with warmth and style.
This large Joglo building contains 2 bedrooms and is surrounded by an expansive veranda with private antique daybeds and open air dining tables. Joglo 1 has a supersize king bed and is large enough to fit an extra single or a cot. The ensuite boasts a large terrazzo bath and shower with twin lava stone sinks. The blue hued contemporary décor is enhanced by a lavish canopy that shrouds the bedding platform.
This is the second bedroom in this large Joglo pavilion. Containing a super king bed, this bedroom is also large enough for an extra single or cot and the adjoining ensuite is comprised of an expansive terrazzo bathtub and overhead rainshower. The décor is ethnic style and showcases eclectic hand selected carvings and cultural paintings.
This large Joglo building contains 2 bedrooms and is surrounded by a sweeping veranda with cosy seating nooks and gently swinging hammocks. Joglo 3 contains a king size bed and is large enough to accommodate an extra single bed or cot. The lavish oversize bathroom boasts a huge shower, bathtub and lava stone twin sinks. The décor is reminiscent of a bygone era, with a wall-size ethnic traditional painting, eclectic antiques, comfortable armchairs and a sumptuous bedding canopy.
The second bedroom in this Joglo pavilion, Joglo 4 contains a king size bed and is large enough for an extra single or cot. Décor is a mix of traditional and contemporary with a writing desk and various artful pieces. The bathroom ensuite with views out to the jungle, contains a huge stone bath and rainhead shower.
The Balinese refer to Kubu’s as cosy cottages nestled in the jungle. Each of the three Kubu’s have their own private pool and lush surrounding gardens ensuring privacy. All with two airy verandas for lounging, dining or simply a quiet space just to breathe. Surrounded by verdant jungle, the Kubu’s are warm and cosy, built in the traditional style entirely of natural and recycled materials, and filled with local and ethnic treasures.
Kubu 1 with its own private pool and sundeck, is built in the traditional style with old and recycled timbers. With two covered verandas for lounging or afternoon tea, Kubu 1 contains a king size bed, walk-in wardrobe, large terrazzo bathtub with overhead rainshower and a terrazzo vanity. This private Kubu has stunning jungle views out across the ridge where far below the gentle flow of the river can be heard
Kubu 2 has two airy verandas and its own private pool and sundeck. With the use of old timbers and contemporary artwork, Kubu 2 is reminiscent of a warm cosy cottage, nestled in the jungle. Surrounded by vibrant tropical plants, the interior is luscious yet homey, with a king size bed, walk-in wardrobe, terrazzo bath and overhead rainshower.
With 2 adjoining verandas, Kubu 3 is a warm, self-contained cottage built with recycled timbers and filled with charming antique pieces. A king size bed overlooks a private garden and personal pool. The bathroom is light and airy with a huge terrazzo tub and overhead rain shower.
Meaning “Palatial” the Istana Suite occupies its own impressive 225m2 Joglo. With an imposing antique Javanese carved ceiling, billowing white gossamer curtains, carefully chosen furniture pieces and huge, floor to ceiling windows, the Istana Suite creates an atmosphere of sumptuous elegance. Clever placement of aged Persian carpets create lounge, writing and relaxation spaces. The stately king size bed on a raised central platform inhabits its own private space, surrounded and canopied by soft, filmy curtains. The huge adjoining bathroom, a wonder in itself, is home to an imposing stone bathtub in the center of its own pond with a tinkling water wall as a backdrop. Two spacious rain head showers and separate vanity areas complete this lavish space. Accessed via the bathroom, the Istana Suite also boasts its own huge private pool and dining bale, to be shared, or not, with your guests.
Living & Dining Rooms
Constructed with natural and locally sourced materials, the lounge and dining Joglos draw guests together, energizing a cultural and authentic experience, without compromising elegant, modern design elements.
The Living Room Joglo is a vast, open air structure with sprawling comfortable sofas, cosy reading and writing areas, all set beneath an intricately carved antique ceiling from Java. Surrounded by wondrous objects and furnishings, the Living Room evokes warmth, togetherness and hospitality. A beautiful carved cabinet cleverly hides a huge TV, perfect for movie nights and entertainment. You will need an Apple or Netflix account. The music system is Bluetooth.
The grand dining room, also set beneath a stunning carved Javanese ceiling, is where your guests gather in celebration to laugh and dine together. Adjoining the kitchen, where you are welcome anytime, the dining room is host to a grand timber table, vast enough for your entire group. Other dining venues include the Bamboo Bale at Orchard Pool or dinner under the stars in the gardens
Gardens & Pools
Nag Shampa Estate has a total of 5 swimming pools. The Orchard Pool with a beautiful bamboo dining bale, the freeform Main Pool which surrounds the impressive and inspiring Yoga Shala, plus three private pools dedicated to each Kubu cottage. With over one hectare to explore, Nag Shampa Estate is a living breathing feast. With organic orchards and vegetable gardens, majestic swaying palms, and fragrant frangipani, the lush gardens are all joined by raised timber walkways, allowing guests to amble amidst rainforest and jungle surroundings
